I wanted to get in on this election thing..as someone who was at one time a staunch arminian. A great verse for me is Eph 2:1 you were DEAD in your trespasses and sins. Dead literally means dead in the Greek. You can do the word study yourself. The strongs number is 3498. That tells me that if I'm dead, and I must be born again, John 3:3, 3:5, how can I do this as a dead man? I can't do it. God himself must intervene. And he did this before the foundation of the world, but not because he saw I would come to him ( remember we are dead in sin), but completely by his grace alone. When I saw this I was really truly blown away, because for the first time I discovered what grace really is...UNMERITED favor. This should give me great freedom in evangelism because, I don't need to strive and manipulate people into Gods kingdom, I need to simply preach the true complete Gospel message.. I'm a mess, incapable of reaching a holy righteous God, Jesus did on the cross what I could never do, which is appease the wrath of God. If they are Gods elect they will come to Christ, and if not they won't!! Isn't that great???!!! |
