We have been looking at the glorification of believers. This glorification speaks of the final state of blessedness of the child of God. There is an intermediate state after death where the believer's spirit is made perfect, but we are concerned with the final state. This glorification can give assurance to the believer in this present state where sin still oppresses us and we groan in hope of redemption. Our glorification occurs alongside Christ's glorification. We are glorified together (8:17). The glory that is Christ's is the glory of His return. This will involve the redemption of our body (8:23). We are waiting for the same event as creation: resurrection and return. The manifestation of the sons of God is the redemption of the body. It happens at the return of Christ. This is the glorious liberty of the children of God. At Christ's return, the saints are glorified, manifested, liberated, adopted and finally redeemed. The true child of God groans for this. We know this painful longing. In Romans 8, we get insight into our glorification
1. manifestation (8:19) this speaks of a revealing of who we are we are revealed when Christ is revealed Col 3:3-4 2 Thess 1:10-12 1 Peter 4:13 1 John 3:2 At this manifestation, the sons of God will be - publicly identified - unified - glorified (a visible sign of glory - Mark 9:3, 2 Peter 1:16-18)
2. liberation (8:21) bondage is corruption freedom is liberation from corruption creation shares in this this is liberation from corruptible flesh it is not liberation from flesh we are not meant to be bodiless spirits
3. adoption/redemption (8:23) we have a present experience of this a fullness is to come
