Genesis 30 is a chapter filled with both conflict and blessing – the record of God’s covenant keeping, as he takes the mess of human dysfunction and uses it to fulfill his promises. Jacob and Laban are posturing for the best advantage in a new business arrangement. But Jacob is 14 years older and wiser and comes up with a plan in which he is increased and Laban is relatively impoverished. It’s an inspired plan – given to him straight from God. Jacob learns to trust in the Lord – that the God of his fathers will fulfill his covenant promises. We see this also is the text points us to the person and work of Jesus Christ.
