These chapters are some of the most mysterious in the whole book of Ezekiel. If not for a reference to Revelation 20:8, these chapters would be very difficult to interpret. But the chapters themselves provide numerous interpretive keys. They speak about the "latter days" (37:16). And they describe events that can hardly be interpreted in a strictly literal way. For example, God is said to be preparing a "sacrificial feast" in which the participants will "drink blook till you are drunk" (Ezek. 39:19). The names Magog, Tubal, Gomer, Togarmah, and Meshech appear in the genealogy of Japheth, the Son of Noah, as some of the "coastland people" who would trouble Israel (Gen. 10:2–5; cf. Ezek. 38:6). Understanding this battle can help believers face the future knowing that God is on their side and will win the victory for them.
