~Help, I've Fallen and I Can't Get Up~ Galatians 6:1-5 Some Christians have the uncanny ability to turn on one another at the very time when support and encouragement are most needed. In the name of holiness and preserving purity, we can assault those who desperately need affirmation and assistance, rather than attack. How do we deal with a fallen believer? The legalist— “And they tie up heavy loads, and lay them on man's shoulders; but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger.” (Matthew 23:4) The Lord— “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart;and you shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my load is light.” (Matthew 11:28-20) The Problem (v. 1) The problem and solution should be handled by the church— “brethren”. The sin is undefined and unexpected— “caught”-taken by surprise, caught off guard, not premeditated. The Prescription (v. 1) The responsibility of the church is to restore the saint— “restore”-set a broken bone, mending nets The process of restoration is to be carried gently. Remember your own vulnerability.“Lest you too be tempted.” The Person (v. 1) - “Spiritual” What qualifies someone as spiritual? The Purpose (v. 2) Restoration is the outworking of our biblical obligation to bear one another's burdens.— “burden” (v. 5)
