The Sure Mercies of David
Paul uses three metaphors or picture-words to link his thoughts. They are "darkness," "light," and "fruit." He doesn't say we had darkness or darkness had us. He declared, "you were darkness." To complete his contrast, "now are you light." Prior to coming to Christ we embodied darkness now we embody light. Since that is so, we must "walk as children of light." Spiritual enlightenment enables this walk.
