Theme: Despite financial circumstances, genuine followers of Jesus must find their hope and joy in Christ and His kingdom. In vv. 17-19, we see that the miracles Jesus did were proof that His message should be listened to and followed. We need to live out the teachings of Christ our King. In v. 20, we are taught that the poor who are in Christ can be truly happy because they are truly rich in Christ. We can live in contentment. In v. 24 a warning is given to the rich not to hope in their riches or hoard wealth for themselves (James 5:1-6) but instead to place their hope in Christ. Kingdom finances teaches us that we all need to be content and trust the Lord. Our hope needs to be on the Lord and we are called to live in such a way that doesn't just say the words, but is revealed in actions.
