Over and over again in this prophesy of Malachi, the prophet has confronted those who were members of the covenant community who, in spite of their protestations to the contrary, had adopted a compromising, criticizing, and contrary attitude toward the God who they claimed as their own. Over and over again, the prophet showed them (and us) that the Lord was, and is, still in control and that He is still holy, just and active. Now, at the end of the prophesy, the prophet has a message which is particularly directed toward those who are faithful. This is an extraordinary demonstration of love and consolation for those who love Him and fear His name. The Lord has always been faithful to His people and He has always preserved them even when things seemed very dark. The promise to them is the same promise to us; unto "you who fear [His] name…."
