Aim: To practice true wisdom—out of love for Christ.
Doctrine: True wisdom leads to peace; false wisdom results in chaos. This is a good gauge for us to employ as we consider any situation before us (the church).
Exegesis: The traits of true and false wisdom: false wisdom is self-centered, and hence, idolatrous (v. 16); true wisdom is Christ-saturated, and hence, perfectly balanced (v. 17); all real righteousness is Christ's—wisely imputed to us (believers) (v. 18).
Further application: How Christians experience the benefits of true wisdom: by doing faith-motivated acts of kindness, we glorify God, bless others, and fulfill our purpose.
Key verse: v. 17 ''But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.''
