God sent His Son into the world to save sinners. Jesus is the Friend of sinners. Zacchaeus was one of those sinners. One day he heard Jesus was coming to town. He had one thing that hindered him. He was a little guy. But then he sees this sycamore tree. Never in the history of the world had there been a more important sycamore tree. God planted it there so that it would be just the right size, fit for climbing for someone who was short. When it was time, the same God planted that tree would have Zacchaeus climb the tree so that Jesus would call him to Himself.
Jesus came to that place. As far as Zacchaeus knew, he was seeking to see Jesus. But the Lord was actually seeking Zacchaeus to save Him from his sins. You will never receive anything comparable to the gift of salvation that Jesus Christ gives to you. Zacchaeus was surprised by grace. He climbed that tree as a stranger to God and a stranger to God's grace, and he came down as a friend of Jesus Christ, one who had been saved by grace.
