Psalm 58 is an imprecatory Psalm. Unlike the previous Psalm, we are not told the background of David's inspiration to this one. He first describes the wicked before asking God to bring justice upon them. To our sensitive ears, these calls for specific retributive justice sound foreign. Yet we, too, desire for sin and sinners to be stopped in their tracks (hoping oppressors and victims will come to Christ) while submitting to God's design of justice.
