When people refuse to bow to God's word with respect to judging themselves and judging within the realm God had delegated to them, then they will judge God and His ordained authority structures. The reason rebellious people turn upon their earthy authority structures, is because it is these structures that touch them most obviously when they refuse to carry out their God given responsibilities. So in Corinth, those who refused to judge themselves turned upon Paul who held them accountable to God's eternal standard. Likewise, when we are in rebellion against God's authority it will be manifested most clearly by how we react to the authority structure/s that is/are closest to us. We are all called to examine ourselves to see whether we are in the faith and bowing to God's physical authority structures is one sure indicator revealing where our hearts are.
