After God deals with the last group of animals, those that crawl on their bellies or those that go about on more than four feet, they are all an abomination without exception. He then made it clear why this was important, so that you do not become an abomination like them, because they can defile. Remembering that this is a physical picture of a spiritual reality, what God is saying here is that we need to be able to see the spiritual unclean because when we do not see them, we become like them. We will have the same defilement that they have. This is what played out in the history of Israel so they became like Egypt, Babylon and Canaan. God gave them the food laws so that they would be spiritual separate and not just bear the physical picture. They are to be consecrated and they were to know that they were to be holy, so that God would be their God. All the animals in this chapter were given, so we could make a separation between those who are right with God and those who are not.
