This battle, Armageddon, is shown to be a symbol of God delivering His people from being besieged by the enemy, such as in the most direct OT allusion, Judges 4-5. As Richard Bacon summarizes: "Armageddon means one thing: God's sucking in His enemies to destroy them [vss. 12-14]." This battle is already begun and is nearing its climax.
