Dearly beloved congregation of our Lord Jesus Christ, we saw last week that we need to walk in love. We saw the danger of being deceived by empty words that attempt to persuade us that God’s not mad, that God’s not angry, that God will not react strongly against sin. But this week we move from avoidance to transformation. Our passage starts with a warning not to sin, but ends with a promise of resurrection and conversion for dead sinners through the amazing work of Christ, the light of the world, shining through us. It’s a glorious movement, and I hope that you will pay careful attention as we trace it through the passage. What I hope to show you tonight is that you shouldn’t sin, because Jesus’ light shines through you to light up the world.
