Sometimes we as Christians are chided for being 'too heavenly minded to be any earthly good.' But in reality, too many of us are 'too earthly minded to be of any heavenly good.' Paul says that the only way to go the distance, to finish the race set out for us is to keep our focus on the right place. Not focusing on the light and temporary problems and difficulties we face now, but focus on the eternal weight of glory that awaits us. Paul chose not to obsess over his problems. His problems did not define him. Instead Paul saw that God was achieving in him something far greater through them-- that God was not primarily interested in Paul's happiness, but rather his holiness. And that suffering for Christ achieves a far greater weight of glory in the future. In fact, in comparison, what we face now is absolutely nothing in light of what we will have in heaven. What God has planned for us will blow our minds. It is exceedingly exceeding above anything we can imagine. So we focus on what is eternal and permanent rather than what is time based and passing.
