Isaiah 42 mentions 2 servants. Slowly, the Scripture reveals who they are. Initially, God used individuals and families like Noah and Abraham to serve Him and spread His name abroad.
After this, God transformed his servant into an entire nation who were originally created as a nation of priests. But all merely human servants ultimately fail God.
But in his providential workings and secret decrees, the LORD of the universe planned to bring a servant that would not fail. This servant comes out of the nation and transforms it into a whole world of servants who, because of their new union with The Servant (Jesus Christ) serve and worship the Living God together.
This is the mystery of things to come in Isaiah's day that the New Testament makes plain to all. Christ in Isaiah! This is grand theme of this entire book, but especially these last few chapters, chapters like Isaiah 42.
