How do we know that our salvation is real? How do we know that Jesus Christ is indeed the promised Messiah and savior? Is our salvation based on some emotional, liver quiver, or is there objective truth? Our salvation through faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is not some new fangled idea concocted by the followers of Jesus is some back room in Jerusalem and then forced on the world. But rather, the salvation we enjoy today is rooted deeply in the Old Testament Scriptures. God revealed to his prophets hundreds of years before Jesus the WHAT, WHEN, and HOW of our salvation. The WHAT or the new covenant relationship was revealed to Jeremiah and Ezekiel. That's why Jesus said that Nicodemus should have known about the new birth since it was clearly revealed in the OT. The WHEN was revealed to Daniel-- down to the very day Jesus would ride into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey to offer himself as their Messiah, and then he would be cut off. The HOW encompassed both the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories to follow. The CROSS and the CROWN-- all revealed in the OT. But not only were the details revealed to the prophets, but it was also revealed that it was for US. They couldn't put the piece of the puzzle together. Jesus did! And His apostles proclaims the message of the gospel, supported by quotations from the OT proving the Jesus Christ was indeed the Messiah, the Savior! We have a more sure word of prophecy unto which we had better take heed! So our hope is built on the Word of God, not some emotional experience.
