Sometimes, we must stop to restate the obvious, simple truth that we so often forget.
We come in sorrow at what has happened in our country and community the past week. A young woman was murdered by her ex-boyfriend just 3 days ago.
We cannot seem to stop these killings. We are helpless.
Yesterday morning, a bicyclist was run over and killed as he tried to cross the highway during a bicycling event held every year.
No matter how much money and time was spent by the police in directing traffic, the poor man simply ignored their shouts and rode into oncoming traffic. We are helpless to stop such accidents, no matter how hard we try.
In the past 24 hours, two mass shootings took place, in Ohio and El Paso. At this time, 29 innocent people have been murdered.
The El Paso shooter had written that he opposed immigration, and told the police he had tried to kill as many Mexicans as possible. His theory was that if he and other "patriots" killed enough Mexicans, they would go back to Mexico.
And we are all helpless to stop these slaughters. Our hearts are filled with hopelessness.
But helplessness and hopelessness in the face of sorrow and evil are an everyday reality.
We are helpless to save the ones we love from sickness and death.
We are helpless to stop the courts from kidnapping our little children.
We are helpless to stop the government from destroying those brave people who expose state murder and wickedness.
We are helpless to stop the slaughter of millions of helpless babies.
God knew we would be helpless against evil. Therefore, He sent Salvation and Judgment in the person of His Son, the Lord Jesus!
