The last section of this chapter is undoubtedly what has made it so famous to the people of God. But looking at those closing verses in the context of the whole chapter leads us to see that the inspired Apostle was not setting out to teach some kind of scheme regarding the Second Coming of Christ, but that he wanted to provide comfort and assurance for the believers who had seen other believers die. The chapter underscores that each Christian has a set of fundamental relationships, including even with those Christians who have died. The point Paul was making is that those who have died are not gone. Instead, their bodies will be raised on the day when Christ will appear from Heaven.
