Jesus once warned some people He was talking to by reminding them about Lot's wife (Lk.17:32). This sermon is a call to remember Lot. I believe Lot illustrates challenges that face each of us, for there were areas in Lot's life and thinking where he clearly demonstrated zeal for the Lord and the Lord's way and yet, in other areas, his thinking had been compromised by the world he lived in. It becomes clear in this record is that Lot's world view had been influenced by the perversion around him and we are struck with Lot's view of the Kingdom, or lack thereof. When one fails to counter the pagan mindset that surrounds them with a Biblical world view, then pragmatism and perversion will reign and this is clearly demonstrated in Lot's family--especially his daughters. And the fruit of pragmatism always fights against God's Kingdom and world as the Moabites and Ammonites did so aggressively throughout Israel's history. Lot failed in one of the most critical areas. Lot was a good man, living in a way that he could be said to be personally righteous, however, his effectiveness for the Kingdom was ultimately negative.
