After the children of Israel reach the edge of the wilderness, God spoke to Moses again. Even though He is leading them with a pillar of cloud and fire, He still told Moses that they were going to camp on the edge of the Red Sea. In human terms, not a very strategic position, especially since God was going to send Pharaoh chasing them. After Pharaoh lost his firstborn son and let the Israelites go, then he, with the Egyptians, started to question why they made that decision, especially with the Israelites heading where the wilderness would close them in. Pharaoh then mobilized his army against the children of Israel. When you are chasing millions of people, a large number of soldiers were required. They overtook the Israelites camping by the Red Sea. All of these things were happening so that God could gain honor over Pharaoh and his army. The nations would know that there was no God like the true God. God continues to direct the events of the world to bring Him glory out of the midst of apparent disaster.
