The apostle John plainly reminds us that we are incapable of knowing God or of truly loving if God had not loved us first. This relates to both our justification--we can't know God without Him first loving us enough to reveal Himself to us in saving fashion--and to our sanctification--we can't love either God or other people without that perfect love of God, moving us away from responses based on fear to responses based out of God's love for us.
I offer two excellent ways we can demonstrate our love for God by loving our brothers and sisters. One way involves the church at large (having charity toward each other regarding the various eschatological positions we hold), and the other way involves individual congregations (praying together regularly).
