Black or white; Republican or Democrat; Jew or Gentile. For every "position" that we take in this life, there is almost always an "opposite" position, and for the most part, we are taught to have hostility toward that "other" position. This is a great picture of what the early church had to overcome, as Jews and Gentiles had long been taught hostility toward one another.
Amazingly, the Gospel did successfully tear down those barriers and destroy the hostility, as Paul explains in Ephesians 2:13-18. No longer could Jews have disdain toward Gentiles, and no longer could Gentiles regard Jews as zealous fools. The wall of hostility between them was torn down, and they are now one new humanity. Not only did this have tremendous implications for the early church but it does for us today as well. Join us this coming Sunday to contemplate the implications of "How the Gospel Tears down Barriers."
