The Apostle Peter has travelled from Jerusalem to Antioch. In this trip, the Apostle Paul rebukes the Apostle Peter. Now, if this is not a symbol of the equal authority of the Apostle Paul, then I do not know where you will find a better example in the Bible. Once again, the gospel was at stake. It wasn’t the legalism which was right belief with wrong practices. This time it was hypocrisy- wrong practices with right belief. How many times have you heard someone say, “I will not visit or attend the church because it is full of hypocrites.” These are generalizations that people often make about church. Perhaps, they have been hurt in the past, had a bad experience, or simply do not want to come under God-ordained church authority. Either way, we cannot discount the gospel or the church, because God has given them both to us. The title today will be “The Threat of Hypocrisy” and we will discuss Gospel Communion, Gospel Confusion (right doctrine/wrong practice, and Gospel Conviction.
