There are way too many definitions of love. There is the definition that we find in the world, which can be fallen into and out of. It is based upon emotion and performance. I will love you if you fulfill my expectations. I will love you if you make me feel good.
there is a definition of love among professing Christianity that is likewise false. It is a love that is loosely related to the world's love. If you think like me, smell like me, etc. you can be part of my club and we can love one another.
And, then also in professing Christianity, there is the ushy, cushy love. We love everyone and that love embraces them warmly and sweetly, no matter what they are like. This love does not allow for criticism or correction, because this demonstrates intolerance.
well none of these definitions of love are demonstrative of the biblical love called for throughout the Word of God.
Biblical love is much harder than any of these. Biblical love is reflected most perfectly in God's love that He demonstrates in the Word and in the world.
