Scripture is replete with statements emphasizing that all men must be changed (regenerated) from within. (Jeremiah 24:7; Romans 2:29; 12:2; 2 Corinthians 7:10) This regeneration is an instantaneous act of God's free grace by which He makes the spiritually dead to be spiritually alive. It is a make-or-break prerequisite for becoming a Christian, and its truth must be practical in our lives. Ephesians 2:11-22 shows us that it is the foundation for loving, godly relationships in Christ among Christians. All that begs the question: Why must you be regenerated? The answer to that question lies in knowing first what you were saved from, and what your life before salvation really was.
