Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He gave work for his followers to do in His absence. We are to make disciples of all nations, baptizing and teaching them to observe His commands. In short, we are to help make fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. But Jesus also said that He is coming again. He will return, but no one knows when. In the meantime, we've been made 'stewards of the manifold grace of God.' Each of us has been given a grace gift for ministry to others. Peter divides the various spiritual gifts into two main categories: Speaking Gifts and Serving Gifts. Those with speaking gifts are to take seriously their task of teaching, preaching, sharing God's Word. Those with serving gifts are to do so with the ability that God provides. All service is to be done for God's ultimate glory. Now, what Jesus hopes to find upon His return are faithful, wise stewards, who are working till He comes!
