Diligent Disciples - Lesson 14 - Eyewitness Testimony. Peter encourages the suffering church by assuring them that he has been an eyewitness to the things he is telling them about Christ. He is not depending on cunningly devised fables, myths and fictions built on faulty foundations and giving false hope. He is teaching them the truth about the anticipated powerful return of Christ. Contrary to what the false teachers we preaching, Christ was going to return in power and glory, He will explode upon the scene with the blowing of an angelic trumpet, the raising of the dead saints, and the transfiguration of living saints as they are glorified. We can take encouragement in the truth that Peter and the other Apostles were indeed eyewitnesses to Christ and the story they have to tell as a result is indeed majestic, magnificent, and moving. Furthermore, we learn here the importance of being on the lookout for those who would deceive us and lead us away from the truth. Satan is the greatest deceiver, but we also must be careful not to deceive ourselves!
