Aim: To be strengthened and encouraged by the great acts of God.
Doctrine: The great acts of God lift the church from the depths of despair to the heights of glory. When we own our desperate condition (in sin), we are able to celebrate our exalted position (in Christ).
Exegesis: The increasing nearness to God we enjoy through His great acts: our Lord knows His church's struggles (vv. 9-10); our Lord intercedes for His church's salvation (vv. 11-12); our Lord dwells with His church—for her satisfaction (vv. 13-15).
Further application: How believers participate in the great acts of God: by sincerely renewing the covenant of grace (as the redeemed church), our hearts receive the Spirit's fresh anointing (through Christ).
Key verse: v. 15 ''You gave them bread from heaven for their hunger, and brought them water out of the rock for their thirst, and told them to go in to possess the land which You had sworn to give them.''
