In Philippians 4:4, Paul gives the command to rejoice in the Lord always. Then, he repeats himself. This is how important a rejoicing heart is to the confidence, courage and unity of the body of Christ. The Philippians saints were facing opposition from the world, fending off enemies of the cross and dealing with dissension in the church. This can be discouraging. Paul urges these saints to resolve their conflict and unite that they might stand firm and hold the line, side by side for the faith of the Gospel. We can rejoice at all times and in all situations because our Sovereign Lord has already overcome the world, securing our victory. We also have the confidence that He is working all things together for our good.
