Our understanding of the covenant necessarily defines the people of God. None deny the importance of the covenant in God's Kingdom, yet ignorance about the covenant is one of the scourges of our day. Modern evangelicalism doesn't ask this basic question: "Does God change the definition of His visible covenant people from the Old to the New Testament?" Unless we understand that there is continuity in the way God defines and relates to the most basic covenantal unit in His Kingdom, the family, we will not fully understand or appreciate what Paul is saying here.
