Today,I would like to address another wonderful blessing of salvation. It has to do with the ability to see. Actually, I desire this morning to add to the blessings of being able to say, “I am blessed, chosen, adopted, accepted, redeemed, and forgiven.“ This morning, I want you to be able to say, “I am enlightened.” Let me explain where we are going. We live in a world that is striving for enlightenment. According to Webster’s, the word enlightenment means, the state of having knowledge or understanding : the act of giving someone knowledge or understanding. Further, the Enlightenment was a philosophical movement of the 18th century that stressed the belief that science and logic give people more knowledge and understanding than tradition and religion. Also in other religions (Buddhism and Hinduism), it is a final spiritual state marked by the absence of desire or suffering. It is a state of complete happiness and bliss that transcends this world of competing desires and suffering. Therefore to be enlightened, one must be in a state of having knowledge and understanding. The world today in many ways is concerned with enlightenment and the paths of enlightenment. Most people want to be happy and possess knowledge and understanding of their existence. Within the human heart, there is desire for someone more, something greater. Most in the world are striving to find the path of enlightenment through science, logic, and reason. However, I want to contend with this thought by examining it through the lens of Scripture. |
