7. The Cross of Christ was Christ’s Greatest Moment – It was the Cross-work for which Jesus was anointed by the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 61:1). It is the cross-work alone that appeased the wrath of God, finished the work of Salvation and by which he could peacefully commend his spirit to the Father (John 19:30; Luke 23:46). It is the cross-work by which Jesus himself is satisfied (Isaiah 53:11). 8. The Cross of Christ is the Pilgrim’s Greatest Milestone – John Bunyan’s masterpiece, Pilgrim’s Progress taught us well that “Burdens are lifted at Calvary” (Isaiah 58:6) and that this place, the foot of the cross is a place to visit often in gratitude. 9. The Cross of Christ is the Christian’s Greatest Motivation – it is by the blood of the cross that atonement is made for sin and by which the conscience is purged from dead works and enabled “to serve the living God” (Hebrews 9:14) 10. The Cross of Christ is Grace’s Greatest Monument – The blood of the cross was shed not just for the Jew (as the Passover lamb was) but for the sins of the whole world. “All nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues” will praise God’s Lamb for all eternity (Revelation 5:9). 11. The Cross of Christ is the Christian’s Greatest Meditation - We come to prayer through the cross-work of Christ; and the cross continually in the reading of Scripture. 12. The Cross of Christ is the Church’s Only Message - Deviate from the cross of Christ and you have abandon the faith. The church has no message apart from the cross. 13.The Cross of Christ is the Pastor’s Greatest Mission - It is the cross of Christ that the pastor takes comfort for his soul, like any of other Christian, and his greatest joy.
