In Romans 6 Paul is addressing the falsehood that salvation by free and sovereign grace will lead to lawless living. Our union with Christ's resurrection ensures that all true believers will be caused to walk in newness of life. But there is a second argument as well: we were once the slaves of sin, and as such we did our master's bidding by living in lawlessness. Now Jesus Christ is our new Master, and we owe to Him our allegiance and our obedience. The fruit of having Jesus as our Master is that we walk in lawlessness no longer and instead seek to perfect holiness in the fear of the Lord.
