After declaring from Isaiah 8 that Christ is related to His people because they are called His children, the writer speaks of the logical conclusion from that statement, specifically that Christ had to take on flesh and blood. If His children have flesh and blood, He had to take on that flesh and blood so that He could die. Only through dying was Christ able to destroy the devil who had the power of death. Through His death, He could break the bondage caused by the fear of death. Because He took on flesh and was made like His brethren, He also could act as a merciful and faithful high priest making reconciliation between God and His people. Because He joined us in suffering, He can aid those who suffer.
