After Paul's great treatise on the supremacy of Christ he begins to discuss the subject of suffering. It appears this is a drastic change of thought, but his thoughts on suffering are still tethered to the supremacy of Christ outlined in verses 15-23.
The apostle explains that suffering is a natural part of the Christian life experience and that he rejoiced in his sufferings. He looked past his present circumstances because he had an eternal view of suffering which he explains in 2 Corinthians 4:17-18.
As we consider this subject, we need to broaden our understanding that our suffering is for a much greater purpose: the glory of Christ as well as for our good and the benefit of the church.
