Paul's FIRST MISSIONARY JOURNEY PT1 Acts 13:1-3Beginning in chapter 13 of Acts you have the called the foreign mission section of the book of Acts. The central character among the followers of Christ up to this time has been the apostle Peter. Beginning in Acts chapter thirteen, we come to know more and more of the life and ministry of the apostle Paul. God's work has been centered on one people, the Jews; but now, the Word goes forth to all people, just as God intended for it to do. The church started with Christ and His disciples and was empowered at Pentecost. Christ commissioned His church to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.These were people who spoke the Word of God with boldness.In our day, we have the completed revelation of God's Word, the Bible, in our hands. This means from the conclusion of the first century until this present moment in time, there has been no new foretelling of things to come. We believe what has been foretold, what is yet to take place, and we are involved in forth telling the things of God in holy boldness as we preach God's Word. When the apostle Paul, known as Saul of Tarsus, was saved on the road to Damascus, it was Barnabas who befriended Saul and recommended him to the apostles. They thought, no doubt, that Paul might be just a spy, someone trying to find out what they were doing and seeking to bring great persecution to them. After all, Paul was the one who executed the orders to stone Stephen to death. He held the cloaks of those who threw the stones. It was quite a thing that Barnabas did to influence the other apostles to welcome this converted persecutor into the fellowship of believers.
