The Fifth Cry (I Thirst)John 19:28 CHRIST died for our sins according to the Scriptures. (1 Cor. 15: 3). This has reference not only to the purpose of His death, but to the particulars of that death, as well. Hundreds of years before He went to the cross some of the Minutes and details of His death were written in the prophetic Scriptures. His death was according to a settled plan and design. One of the details of His death which were pre-written was this: "In my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink" (Ps. 69: 21). The full verse from which our text is taken refers to this: "After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scriptures might be fulfilled, saith, "I thirst."Men die because they can't help it; Christ died because He willed it. He dismissed His own spirit-but not until every letter of the Word of God was fulfilled.
