We consider the eleventh Psalm, and especially the well-known words - 'If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?' We live in troubled times, and our western world, particularly the United Kingdom, has long since lost any claim to be a 'Christian' nation. Indeed, was it ever deserving of this title? When we consider these sad things, the temptation can be to shake our heads sadly and mourn the state of things, as this verse seems to do. But is that how we should interpret this verse? Who is it who 'speaks' these words in the conversation of the Psalm? When we get things straight and consider what our response to decline and downgrade should be, we draw inspiration from the boldness of King David, and his unfettered focus on our Sovereign God!
