Jonah, after he had dealings with God in the belly of the fish, was spit up on dry land, and God recommissioned as a prepared prophet to preach repentance to the Ninevites. This was a great mercy of God to Jonah. The word of the Lord came to Jonah the 2nd time. God wasn't through with the failed prophet. God had further work for Jonah to do. First God chastened Jonah, but He did not cast him off. After disciplining Jonah, God knew that He could still use Jonah to do what He wanted him to do. This was a comforting word to the prophet. The ministerial goal was to proclaim to Nineveh to repent. This shows us that God is a God of 2nd chances. Jonah needed to be brought from a position of doubt and disobedience to be placed on the road to obedience. God was great enough to do this. Brethren, we must go at His bidding, if we would know His blessing.
