False prophets know the way of God, the right way to live for Him, but they turn aside from this way. False prophets proclaim a gospel that promises much but does nothing to alleviate spiritual thirst; their hearers are not blessed; and they quickly bring utter disaster upon themselves and their followers--hell is reserved for those who leave The Way. They may be discerned by their ungodly lives—they produce no good fruit. They remain bad trees, never having been regenerated by the power of the resurrection life. As such, false prophets are worse off than they were before they came to the knowledge of God.
