Every year since 1942, the National Father's Day Committee confers the 'Father of the Year' award to honor contemporary life style leaders of our society. Men such as Jack Benny, Danny Thomas, Billy Graham, Ronald Reagan, and even Donald Trump have received this honor. We are not sure what criteria they use to bestow such honors. But what makes a good father? What kind of man would God nominate to be 'father of the year'? In Numbers 12, we have the account of God honoring a man-- Moses, who also was a father. God honors him for his humility as seen in his selfless concern, his non-competitive spirit, and in his non-defensive stance. God honors him for his faithfulness, his refusal to bail out when the going got tough. Moses faithfully served God and provided the steady leadership the nation of Israel needed. God also honors Moses for living in fellowship with God! Moses had an intimate, personal relationship with the living God and enjoyed unparalleled sweet fellowship with Him! The LORD spoke to Moses face to face as a man speaks to his friend. These are the qualities God honors: humility, faithfulness, and fellowship! We too can be honored by God for all these qualities are attainable for you and I!
