I Text: Old Covenant : (1 Kings 18:20-29) New Covenant: (Titus 1:10-12) 10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: 11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. 12 One of themselves, [even] a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians [are] alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. 13 This witness is TRUE. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith; II Doctrine: The Church of Jesus Christ must always be vigilant against corrupting the Word of god. Congregations must realize the Devil will use False teachers to corrupt the Church in two major ways. The first is by introducing serious doctrinal errors into the Church. The second is by introducing disgusting cultural practices into the Christian life and worship service. This is always done for their personal benefit over that of God’s people. All cultures are not equal! Cultures that are influenced by the Gospel are superior to those that are not! The Gospel of Jesus Christ trumps (a decisive overriding factor or final resource —called also trump card) all cultures. III Reasons: 1) Was the Lord Jesus Christ gentle with false teachers? WWJD? (John 2:12-17; Matthew 23:11-25) 2) Is sound doctrine still essential for the Church in our day? (2 john 1:7-11) 3) How badly has the social Gospel damaged the Church?
