God's Blessing in Marriage
Marriage is a holy institution because all of the acts which bring a man and a woman together into the one-flesh union have been blessed and ordained by God to promote the kind of intimacy and companionship which is holy in God’s sight. It was the puritan Thomas Manton who said, “Marriages are made in heaven, before they are made on earth.” So the question we will ask this morning is; what are the acts which God blesses in the marriage union which promote a holy intimacy and companionship between a man and a woman? And we can see from our text that there are 3 acts which God blesses in every marriage union which promote holy intimacy and companionship. They are, 1st of all - The act of a man leaving his father and mother and forming a new household. 2nd - The act of a man clinging to his wife. 3rd - The reality of a man and his wife being naked and unashamed. Let’s see if we can understand these things in the way that God would have us to understand them this morning.
