As we come to a better understanding of the historical context of our text in Daniel Chapter 9, we readily realize that Daniel himself very easily could have fallen into the depths of despondency, hopelessness and despair! Because having searched the Sacred Scriptures, he knew that the release and return of God’s people from their Babylonian captivity back to the Promised Land surely must have been drawing near ... and yet, as far as Daniel could tell, there wasn’t even any glimmer of hope in that regard on the horizon. But oh, my dear Brothers and Sisters in Jesus Christ, as our text for today goes on to unequivocally teach us, even in the days of our deepest discouragement and heartfelt hopelessness, we, too, must not despair ... but like Daniel, we must be driven to Prayer!
