La vida para un creyente está descrita de varias maneras en nuestras Biblias. Hemos de ser como un atleta que compite por un premio, Pablo nos dice, y correr nuestra carrera fielmente hasta el final. Hemos de resistir la adversidad como un buen soldado con nuestros ojos no sólo sobre nuestro enemigo sino en nuestro Comandante en Jefe Jesucristo. Hemos de ser pacientes como un granjero con duro trabajo que espera que el fruto de sus cultivos salga. Cada una de éstas es una adecuada descripción de cómo un creyente debería vivir su vida el Señor y su Salvador. Pero también creo, amigos, que Dios pondrá a cada uno de nosotros a través de varios periodos de pruebas, tratos, adversidad, para tratarnos y para examinarnos para probar qué hay en nuestros corazones. Vemos esto en la vida de Job. Literalmente, él perdió todo y así Dios pudo probarlo y deleitarse en él y recibir la gloria de parte de él. Y Job tuvo ésto que decir acerca de sus muchos sufrimientos: “Pero Él conoce el camino que yo tomo: cuando me haya tratado, saldré como oro”. Otro personaje bíblico que experimentó gran trato y aflicción fue el rey David y él tuvo ésto que decir en el Salmo 66:10, “Porque tú nos has probado, oh Dios; nos has refinado como se refina la plata
