The focus of this passage is upon sanctification despite the use of the word 'condemnation'. It's emphasis is upon the believer's deliverance from the power of sin. While we must forever uphold the fact that sanctification flows from justification, it is also true that there is no justification where there is no sanctification--God never gives one without the other. We learn in this passage what it means to condemn sin through the flesh and How Christ did this. We also will see what God's goal is for us in Him condemning sin through the flesh of His Son. The spiritual mind thinks about all things according to God's word whereas the carnal mind is governed by man's wisdom with respect to all things. Once again we are given strong promises about the certainty of our victory over sin even in these mortal bodies.
