Aim: To glory in the atonement of Christ—and to be transformed by Him.
Exegesis: God gives us the law despite our sin (v. 8) and because of His love for us (vv. 9-11). We break the law, alienating ourselves from God (v. 12) and deserving eternal death (vv. 13-17). Christ atones for us law-breakers, making intercession for (vv. 18-20) and providing righteousness for (v. 21) us sinners.
Key verse: v. 9 ''When I went up into the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water.''
