New Heart, New Spirit_22 Ezekiel 26:1-21The Judgment Due to The Defiance of God and Hostility Toward God's People.God's Judgment on Tyre, a City to the North.Tyre's pride was her seagoing prowess. She knew the Mediterranean Sea better than most nations. So Ezekiel used the image of a violent ocean storm to picture God's punishment. Like ocean waves, invading nations would pound against Tyre's defenses, smashing her walls and towers. God added that He would scrape away her rubble and make her a bare rock. Located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, Tyre had one of the best natural harbors in the ancient world.Sometimes the pit means more than just the grave. It can suggest a place of eternal punishment, pain, and anguish. The wicked of Tyre were to go down to the pit, the world of the eternal dead. Never again would the city exist. A day of final judgment is coming for us all, a day when we will cease to exist on earth. When we depart this world, all our daily activity—all our work and play—will end. If we have never accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior, we will be like the citizens of Tyre. We will go down to the pit, the world of the eternal dead.
